Working to develop a safer ferry hill through a collaborative project involving the Regional District of Nanaimo; Islands Trust; MLA Malcolmson; Ministry of Transportation and Transit; BC Ferries, Gabriola Transportation Society, GERTIE; School District 68; and emergency responders including ambulance, police, and fire. We've had the inaugural working group meeting with the consultant hired (Aplin Martin) which was very positive. We expect to hear back with some options later in the year

Implementing the new Area B Parks and Trails Master Plan through a feasibility study on the location of a new sportsfield and multipurpose recreational facility on Gabriola

Supporting community requests to assist the Gabriola Island Memorial Society in acquiring land for a green burial cemetery on Gabriola. A consultant has been hired and we conducted a review of some potential sites on Gabriola

Reviewing the Gabriola noise bylaw to determine if changes are required (look for community consultation later in the year)

Village Way Path improvements including looking at adjusting the fence to address ongoing visibility issues; considering using crosswalk paint to more clearly demarcate where the path crosses commercial driveways; and considering a rainbow crosswalk. All changes will require the permission of the Ministry of Transportation and Transport (MoTT)

The Mudge Island boat access issue has been on the workplan for a few years. I went to Mudge along with senior Parks staff to meet with residents and view different options. Next we're considering a survey to get a better idea of Mudge priorities so we can address the priority concerns of residents

The issue of derelict/abandoned boats and vehicles on rights-of-way is a recurring issue. Because these areas are under MoTT jurisdiction, addressing the issue requires collaboration with the RCMP and MoTT. Both point to limited areas of jurisdiction and limited budgets. I am working to coordinate the RCMP and MoTT and community volunteers to address this
